HEREFORD Cathedral's organist and director of music, Geraint Bowen, gives the second gala concert on the recently-restored Willis organ at the cathedral, on Tuesday, June 14, at 7.30pm.
His concert will be a keystone in this summer's programme of gala evening and Tuesday lunchtime concerts celebrating the instrument's restoration, featuring British and international organists.
Geraint knows the organ well. He was assistant organist at the cathedral from 1989-94, and returned as organist in 2001 after seven years as organist at St Davids Cathedral in Pembrokeshire.
He has given organ concerts throughout the British Isles, as well as in Germany and the United States. Last year he gave an organ concert at the Welsh Proms at St David's Hall in Cardiff.
The music for the evening will include music from three centuries - Bach's Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C, Mendelssohn's Sonata in B flat and Vierne's Symphony No 3 - which will show off three very different aspects of the instrument's character and demonstrate its versatility.

Other concerts in the gala series include Sophie-Vronique Cauch-efer - Choplin (July 14), Peter Dyke (August 18), David Briggs ( September 17) and a Children's Prom (October 8).
