More than a decade ago a band from this very county was belting out Flamenco rock tunes in Spain, touring alongside such big name bands as The Ramones.

How could they possibly know that years later the tunes would act as a catalyst for a renaissance of their group, albeit under a different moniker.

But that is what has happened to the trio of musicians at the heart of White Trash who are on the rise again as Gypsy Pistoleros.

Forty-two-year-old Lee Jones, of Pitmaston Road, St John's, Worcester, formed the metal band White Trash with bassist Ian Walker and guitarist Mark Westwood, both from the Birmingham area, during the 80s.

They all moved down to London in 1982 where they shot to fame and ended up touring with the likes of such legendary bands as The Ramones and Motorhead in Spain. The group split up about nine years ago and they returned to England, where they all went their separate ways.

However, one of their roadies in Spain - Jorge Ward, now head of A&R at Avispa Records in Madrid - tempted them out of oblivion after offering them a record deal earlier this year.

"They were on the lookout for some Latin rock and he remembered some Flamenco rock tracks we used to play," said Lee, who also teaches kung fu at University College Worcester.

"We were a rock band who understood Flamenco - we lived in Spain and used to live with the gypsies in Zaragoza. It wasn't like Barcelona or cosmopolitan places, it was the real Spain.

"American bands have tried to do the sound but it comes out sounding a bit Mexican."

One track in particular which the band came out with nine years ago - Ay Que Dolor! - became the core of Lee, Ian and Mark's new group Gypsy Pistoleros' output.

A newly-recorded version of the song has become their debut single, which is available on the internet, with a further two songs being released next month.

The band's Flamenco rock music has been described as 'Motley Crue meets Los Lobos' and now the re-united trio are busy working on their debut album, Wild, Beautiful and Los Damned, at Mark's studio in Birmingham and have a Kerrang! radio session next month.

The album includes a cover version of Cher's Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves, which will become their next single. "We did it as a bit of a joke at first but it worked really well," said Lee.

The band will now be unleashing their tunes in Worcester on Saturday, June 11, with a gig at the city's Marr's Bar.

On top of that, the group has also formed one of the UK's first internet record labels, LCKF Internet Music Company, and are looking for bands to sign. Any bands interested in signing can visit www.lckfmusic.com
