Conquest Youth Thea-tre presents a double bill of one-act plays on Friday and Saturday, May 13-14.

Farcical comedy The Queen Must Die, by David Farr, is first on the programme. A small town is due to host a Queen's Jubilee procession, featuring a giant papier mach statue of Her Majesty.

However, two very different groups of teenagers embark on a mission to destroy it.

Next up is Early Man, by Hannah Vincent, centred around a school trip and an unusual museum exhibit of a 2,000-year-old bog boy.

The whole company of 20 actors are involved in the productions, which last 45 minutes each.

Director Barbara Hockley, who chose the plays, said: "They're taken from a compilation of plays for young people, put together by the National Theatre each year.

"They're really interesting and exciting, and I wanted to chose plays that involved everyone."

Some of the actors, including Emma Gibbons and Angharad Smith, have helped create complicated and unusual stage sets.

"The sets are very unusual and eye-catching and there are some amazing make-up effects," said Mrs Hockley.

Performances begin at 7.30pm at the Conquest Theatre, Tenbury Road.

Tickets are £6 (concs £5) from 01885 488575.
