Help is needed to solve questions about the life of Malvern's most famous son.

The Elgar in Hereford Group hopes someone will be able to fill the gaps in its archives.

Members would like to know where in Colwall the composer's mother stayed when he visited her in 1897 and was inspired to write the cantata Caractacus.

They are also trying to find out more about Elgar's friend William Eller. Eller took a photograph of Elgar at his house, Birchwood Lodge, at Storridge, in the summer of 1900, when he completed The Dream of Gerontius.

The 200-strong Elgar in Hereford Group holds regular displays in Ledbury and Hereford and works closely with the Elgar Birthplace Museum in Lower Broadheath.

Spokesman Richard Bradbury, who also works for the museum, said: "Elgar's time in the area is documented in books but we want to take it a bit further.

"It would be nice to know the particular details about moments when Elgar gained inspiration."

The group is trying to compile resources to take to local schools. Anybody with information, can call Mr Brad-bury on 01432 820317.
