TWO fund-raising events involving theatre and music will be held this weekend in Kidderminster and Stourport to raise cash for victims of the Asian tsunami disaster.

A gala concert will take place at The Rose Theatre, Broadwaters on Saturday.

All proceeds will go to the Asian Disaster Appeal Fund, as well as a sum of more than £1,000, which has been donated from ticket sales for the recent production of Habeas Corpus.

The charity evening will include extracts from plays, readings and music as well as contributions from members of the Nonentities and other amateur and professional performers.

Contributors include Barry Hipkiss, a pianist and musical director, Rob Willis and Steve Downs of guitar and piano act, CABYH, and members of Kidderminster Operatic and Dramatic Society, The Once Removed Theatre Company and The Rose Youth Theatre.

There will also be performances by pupils from Wolverley High School and Comberton First School as well as floral displays by Andrew Lloyd of Bewdley Floral Art.

Tickets for the gala concert cost £10 and are available from The Rose Theatre on 01562 743745.

Puppets and live music will feature in a concert at Emmanuel Church, Minister Road, Stourport on Sunday at 4pm.

Pastor John Wunderlich, who has organised the event, will be performing his own contemporary Christian songs and will be joined by other singers.

He said: "It will be a very fun-orientated concert, with a good message encouraging people to help others."

The money raised by the event will go to a missionary in Phuket, Thailand and be used to help to rebuild schools and orphanages.
