Can you hit high notes?

AN up-and-coming Big Band with a string of dates to play is desperately seeking trumpet players who can hit those high notes.

The Crown Phoenix Big Band has been rehearsing in Shrawley, near Stourport, and playing gigs throughout Worcestershire for over a year, but their lead trumpet player has had to move away.

With a host of dates booked in the band's busy calendar they need to find some top brass to fit the bill. The Crown Phoenix Big Band plays traditional Big Band charts, including the music of Glenn Miller.

If you are interested in playing with the band, contact Peter Burkes on 01905 621040.

Punchy play of survival

WILLIAM Golding's Lord of the Flies will be brought to life at Malvern Theatres in February in time to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the novel's publication.

Following a plane crash on an uninhabited island the story follows the actions of a group of adolescent schoolboys as they battle against the elements for survival and against each other for supremacy.

This is a stunning story with memorable pictures that stick with you - the conch, the pig hunt, the flies, the blood, and the fates of Simon and Piggy.

The themes of bullying, power, identity and violence are universal.

Tickets for the show, which runs from Tuesday, February 8, to Saturday, February 12, cost £10 to £16 (students £6) and are available from the box office on 01684 892277 or www.malvern-theatres.co.uk
