ROSS-based chamber choir The Penyard Singers urgently need a tenor or two for their choral and orchestral charity concert on April 16 in St Mary's Church, Ross.

Unforeseen and unavoidable absences have reduced the strength of the tenor section, leaving an opportunity for singers to join them temporarily.

The two main works by Johann Nepomuk Hummel, his Te Deum and Mass in B flat, are exciting and tuneful, classical with a hint of the early romantic in style, and are enjoyable for singer and listener alike.

They have been unduly neglected for nearly 200 years and have been published in performing editions only recently.

The concert will also include two baroque anthems, Handel's Zadok the Priest and My Heart is Inditing, as well as pieces by Vivaldi for soprano solo and strings and a concerto for two oboes and strings.

Rehearsals, which have already started for this concert, take place on Wednesday evenings at 7.30 in Ross-on-Wye Baptist Church.

Any tenor (or any other voice!) willing to become a temporary member to help out the choir for this concert will receive a rapturous welcome and is invited to contact their secretary, Debbie Ledden, on 01989 563164 or their music director, Tony Washington, on 01989 750085.
