A Bromsgrove arts centre is throwing its doors wide open and inviting the public to take a look at what it has to offer when it holds an open day on Saturday, September 17.

The Artrix, on School Drive, is set to have a host of local bands, dance activities and much more going on to win over the public.

The centre, which opened in May, has experienced a slow start, but marketing officer Bev Southall hopes that the open day can bring the Artrix to the fore in the minds of the town's population.

She said: "We want to show that the Artrix has something for everyone.

"We want to bring the 'wow' factor to the people of Bromsgrove.

"The Artrix should be a central part of the town, showing people that they are part of what is going on here."

The event, which runs between 12pm and 7pm, starts with Stormtroopers from science-fiction classic Star Wars handing out invitations to people on the High Street to the open day.

The invitations also entitle visitors to one free drink from the Artrix's bar.

A gazebo will also be set up to handing out invitations and direct people to the Artrix.

Local bands Trigger, No Diploma, Montana and Inside Us All, will be showcasing their talents throughout the event.

Samba dancing and circus skills will also be happening throughout the open day.

Tutors from the Artrix's new courses will be on hand to speak with all day, including Nicola Drinkwater (language in action), Huw Thomas (adult drama) and Giovanni Esposito (guitar for beginners).

The Artrix has started to become more popular, with tickets for poet Pam Ayres and ghost hunter Derek Acorah selling out.

l On Sunday, September 18 Andrew Weekes will be holding a charity concert for breast cancer charities by covering Elton John songs (7.30pm start). Call the box office on 01527 577330.
