A VIRTUOSO violinist will be raising the roof with more than a classical concert at a village hall near you from next week.

Beverley Davison is performing her hit show Classical Cabaret in four performances at local community centres as part of the new season of the Shindig council-run arts-in-the-community project.

The project aims to bring top professional performers to rural venues and it hopes to continue the growing success of its last season.

Classical Cabaret is a show about more than classical music, despite Beverley's professional credentials.

She has been playing the violin since she was four years old and studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School. She toured the world as a soloist but became disillusioned with the classical scene.

She said: "I began to realise that it wasn't the music I disliked but the way it was being presented. For me, it didn't work; music is wonderful and it should have no barriers."

So she came up with Classical Cabaret which combines a huge range of styles - classical, jazz, folk, film, comedy, song, bluegrass and pop - with her extraordinary talent and humour.

"Moving, approachable, fun and above all, thoroughly entertaining," said promoters. "This will be a wonderful evening of music for all."

Beverley Davison will be at Harvington Village Hall, near Evesham, on Thursday, September 22, from 7.30pm (call 01386 870255). On September 23, she is at Little Witley Village Hall, Worcester (01886 888830/888834), she is at Kingsley College Theatre, Redditch on September 24 (01527 830731) and at Rowney Green Peace Memorial Hall, near Bromsgrove, on September 25 (01527 62660).
