ASPIRING local bands are invited to enter First Bass, a competition organised by Malvern Youth Centre

The Malvern Music Project is looking for three youth bands to take part in creative workshops from Friday to Sunday, October 21 to 23, at The Highball Centre, Hanley Swan, with each band recording one track.

The bands will then be mixed up, with one track being recorded by each fusion band as well.

Professional musicians will be on hand to work with the bands over the weekend.

The event is free but bands taking part must be available for the whole weekend and the following Saturday (October 29), when they will perform at Malvern Youth Centre, as part of National Youth Work Week.

Other youth centres up and down the country will see them broadcast through a live video and audio link and at the end of the night one band will be named winner.

Bands who wish to be considered must write or e-mail Malvern Youth Centre, outlining why they should be selected to take part. They need to include:

The name of the band and their addresses/e-mails;

The ages of the members of the band;

The line up of the band and how long they have been together;

What type of music they play;

The band's level of proficiency, whether they have gigged before, and whether they have recorded before.

The deadline for entry is Friday, September 30. Contact Dena Falk at Malvern Youth Centre, Albert Road North, Malvern, WR14 2YF, 01684 575363 or at dfalk@worcestershire.gov.uk

BBC Hereford & Worcester will carry details of the competition on its Friday Live Session today (Friday), between 7pm and 9pm on 104FM. The three bands picked for the course will be announced on air on Friday Live Session on October 7.
