IF you like predictability, gore and the ridiculous, this film is for you.

However, steer clear if you're a true horror fan because watching this is more likely to bore you than scare you to death.

Based (very loosely, I imagine) on a true story, the film opens on the dark, stormy night in 1974 which saw young adult Ronald DeFeo brutally murder his parents and four siblings.

Years later, sickly sweet couple George (James Bolin) and Kathy Lutz (Home and Away's Melissa George) - with Kathy's children in tow - move into the "perfect home" which was the scene of the massacre.

A chain of freaky events ensues as it becomes evident the house is possessed by the dead who once lived there. The film overuses all of the standard horror movie tricks, with gore, blood and screaming aplenty.

A weak, unhinged plot and unconvincing acting by the two leads offers an hour and 20 minutes of pure, unadulterated boredom.

There is a briefly funny incident involving a sexy babysitter who predictably gets her comeuppance, but this is the only quirky ray of light in the whole saga.

If you're prepared to watch, prepare to yawn.
