ANYONE who has ever fancied treading the boards is invited to an open day at The Rose Theatre on Saturday.

The Nonentities Society, which operates the Kidderminster theatre, is hoping to encourage more members and will open its doors from 10am until 4pm.

As well as budding actors, it hopes to attract people who have other interests, which they might be able to put to use in the theatre.

Nicola Blakemore, publicity manager, said: "Some people may be terrified at the thought of going on stage so they can pick something else to do. We need people in front of house to sell programmes and drinks, people helping with building sets, lighting, making costumes and props and also actors."

She added: "It is a lot of fun. It is a big social circle. If you are interested in the theatre, it is the chance to act and be involved in live productions."

Visitors to the open day will be able to find out more about the theatre and get the chance to go behind the scenes to see the costume room, set designs and technical department.

They will also have the opportunity to go on stage and envisage themselves in the spotlight.

Some of the Nonentities Society's 120 members will be on hand to talk to visitors and answer questions.

By attracting more members, the society hopes to be able to stage productions for a longer length of time and increase the number it does during the year.

Recently, the theatre also began offering itself as a venue for conferences and meetings during the day and it hopes to encourage more businesses to use the facilities on offer.

David Wakeman, chairman of the Nonentities Society, said: "A very successful season has prompted us to expand in a variety of directions and, for that, we want to encourage new members of all ages and abilities to join us in all areas of the theatre."

On the open day, the Youth Theatre will be meeting in the morning and in the afternoon the New Horizons, a group for young disabled people interested in acting and drama, will be there. The Rose Theatre is open to the public from 10am until 4pm.
