YOUTH CLUBS: The youth clubs all start again this week, with full programmes taking them through the Easter period and into the summer. Emma Lucas, the youth leader, has been meeting her teams of volunteer helpers regularly and putting together a number of projects, one of which took place on New Year's Eve, when fireworks and bonfire party was held at the home of Dr and Mrs Hugh Nunn. This was well attended by both youngsters and parents and many people connected with the youth project.

VILLAGE HALL APPEAL: Efforts to keep money coming into the village hall appeal fund are continuing and the next event is being put on by the social committee of St James' church. At 3pm on Saturday, January 28, there is to be an illustrated talk in the village hall by local expert Tim Porter on the subject of A New Way To Look at Old Churches. A similar talk given by him last year on Cotswold churches is remembered by many people who heard him and who have expressed a wish to hear more. Tickets, priced £5, are on sale from Sue Coley on 870204 or any member of the social committee. This price includes refreshments. Transport can be arranged for anyone who has difficulty in getting to the hall. All proceeds will go to the appeal fund.

SONGS OF PRAISE: St James' Church is organising an unusual morning service on Sunday, and it is hoped that this will be the first of many such gatherings. Instead of a traditional religious service which usually includes communion, this is to be a Songs of Praise with favourite hymns and readings chosen because of their popular appeal. It is not intended purely for regular churchgoers but as an opportunity for all who love to sing. It starts at 9.30. For information, contact Mervyn Huggins on 871238.
