REDDITCH Operatic Society is on the lookout for men to star in this year's production of the classic show South Pacific.

The society, one of the biggest in the area, is desperate for people to fill male roles in the show, set for the Palace Theatre in November.

South Pacific will be the group's first show back at the newly-refurbished Palace after a stint at Kingsley Theatre.

And the group can also boast an award nomination by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA). The society has been nominated for Most Original Production for last year's presentation of Happy As A Sandbag.

This year's South Pacific tells the story of a shipload of American GIs who get shipwrecked on an island, leading to a need for more male cast members.

A Redditch Operatic Society spokesman described the group as modern and funky and said any men over 16 were welcome to attend the South Pacific introductory evening at on Tuesday at Community House, Easemore House, starting at 7.30pm.

There will also be quite a few principal parts up for grabs.
