CHIPPING Campden teenager Oliver Tabor is taking the first steps to being a rock star.

Oliver, who is in his final year at King Edward VI Grammar School in Stratford, has been picked as the drummer in a new rock band being formed by Warwickshire County Music Service.

He was one of seven young people selected for the super-group following auditions across the county.

The band, which has been formed to complement the music service's classical ensembles, is due to play its first gig at the Teen Idol training programme in May.

Organiser Mike Roberts said: "We were blown away by the response and the ability that was on show. We've put together a band that will truly stun everybody, with students from all over the county and of all ages."

Mike added: "We're now looking for sponsors who can help out with getting equipment together. We want to buy an electronic drum kit so we can control the volume in rehearsals and concerts more easily, we need to get stage clothes and find rehearsal space, so I would be delighted to hear from anyone who is able to help."

More information is available by calling Mike on 07855 544685.

Other chosen band members come from Alcester, Rugby, Kenilworth and Nuneaton.
