ONE of the UK's top entertainment brass band will be performing at Pershore Abbey in April.

The Abbey will resound with the music of the popular Polysteel Band in a charity concert on Saturday, April 22 at 7.30pm. The concert is being organised by the Worcester Wychavon Rotary Club to raise money for St Richard's Hospice.

The band's roots lie in the military as the Gloucestershire Hussars Territorial Army Band who disbanded in 1968, when it became the City of Gloucester Band.

Local brewers, Whitbread Flowers, sponsored the band for many years. In 2005 the band attracted sponsorship from Polysteel UK.

The band sits comfortably in the top 20 of UK bands and competes at many of the prestigious competitions throughout the year.

Recording regularly for BBC's Listen to the Band, the band has achieved a reputation as one of the UK's leading entertainment brass bands.

Tickets for the concert are £10 including programme and are on sale at St Richard's Hospice shops in Pershore, Evesham and Broadway, Blue of Broad Street, Pershore, and on the door.

Building work is currently under way on the new St Richard's Hospice near County Hall in Worcester.
