FROM little acorns mighty oaks do grow - and how true that is of Wigley DIY.

Started 36 years ago by the late Ken Wigley and his wife Jennie, the Stourport store evolved from humble beginnings making furniture carcasses.

Today it is an established family-run store with a reputation for outstanding quality and service.

Mrs Wigley recalls how it all began.

"As other businesses came into the area, people began asking if they could buy a piece of wood or a few nails.

"As more and more people began asking, we soon realised we had the makings of a DIY business, and Wigley DIY was born in the early 1970s," she said.

The company continues to strive, as it always has, to offer customers good value for money, together with competitive prices and to stock an extensive range of goods.

As a result of its independence, Wigley's can order products not normally stocked to meet a customer's need.

Customers also know they can buy products which other retailers do not stock.

This, accompanied with the staff's wealth of knowledge about the products and willingness to assist whenever possible, has helped to develop the loyal customer base that Wigley boasts today.

The company is, and always has been, acutely aware of changing fashions and continues to move with the times.

New houseware and cookware sections have been developed, for example, to equip the kitchen to a high standard.

And, in addition to the traditional ranges of taps, Wigley's stocks the latest designs for the bathroom and kitchen, plus chrome and satin chrome door furniture and switch covers.

As well as all of the usual nuts, bolts, screws, tools and timber you would expect to find, the store boasts a large range of lighting and decorating products, including wallpaper and ceramic tiles.

A popular product in the cleaning range is the Swedish HG Hagesan, which promises to tackle every conceivable household service from carpets to drains, and even remove mould from bath and shower seals.

Flooring is another area which has expanded in the past few years, and includes an attractive range of vinyl and laminate designs and carpet tiles.

Anyone who browses around the store will find many products to help them finish off your home to the very highest standard.

And why stop at the interiors, when people can turn their attention to smartening up the home's exterior and tidying up the garden too.

Gardeners will find a vast array of products including tools, Hozelock water systems, grass seed, fertilisers and composts.

Wigley has now started selling bedding plants, shrubs and perennials, as well as a range of attractive stone ornaments, bird tables and planters.

Wigleys also caters for the "feathered" variety of garden visitor, stocking the Gardman range of bird feeders, nuts and seeds.

Household and pet accessories are also on sale and include leads, grooming tools and toys.

As well as free paint mixing and wood cutting, a free delivery service is available with many purchases on request.

So the next time a visit to a DIY store is planned don't forget Wigley DIY, located on the Sandy Lane Industrial Estate, Stourport.
