HEREFORD is about to be shaken up a bit, as 2Faced Dance Company prepares to transform Hereford Leisure Centre for its annual show - this year called Sub-title.

Having moved venue from the smaller Courtyard, it seems 2Faced - run by choreographer and dancer Tamsin Fitzgerald - has upgraded in all sorts of ways.

A hefty wedge of Arts Council funding earlier in the year has allowed the company to employ two new staff to help with administration and marketing. With a London agent securing the dancers gigs nationally and abroad, there's a lot going on.

"Seeing the boys succeed in an industry that's quite fickle" is what drew Brook Laing from Edinburgh to work as project manager with the company.

She got to know them during their stint up at the Edinburgh Fringe last year, when the boys won a 'pick of the fringe' award. Impressed by their "immense energy", she figured this was a trail worth following.

Tamsin has expanded the company to incorporate a girl's troupe and there's new sponsorship deals from Flipped, Sorted and Kangaroo Poo.

For the Leisure Centre on Saturday, July 1, there will be an afternoon of workshops offering rap, beatbox, hip-hop dance, breaking, graffiti or junk percussion suitable for all age groups. Plasma screens and lighting rigs will transform the hanger-like hall, with local beat-box crew The Anomalies hosting the evening in the manner of the Brit Awards.

"Hereford Leisure Centre will be pimped out," said 19-year-old Al Rowland.

Their fusion of break and contemporary dance offers something completely unique. "We're going to be slappin' you on the arse so you say 'where's that come from'?" said Brook.

Evening tickets for Sub-title can be purchased on 0870 1122330 from the Courtyard. Workshop places can be booked through 2Faced administrator, Melanie Evans, on 01432 346526.
