WOBBLING toddlers and creative exercise are all part of a day's work for Worcester's new dancer in residence.

Jodie Louise Roberts has been appointed as the Swan Theatre's first permanent dancer.

Working with toddlers to adults she will offer a diverse scheme of classes, workshops, and evening sessions all designed at getting more people moving their feet.

The 23-year-old, who lives in Coventry, has a degree in dance and professional practise.

She said: "I'm really looking forward to working at the Swan.

"It's really exciting to have a permanent base from which to develop new classes and ideas, put my own stamp on things, as well as being able to work with such a wide range of people.

"It's also nice to have a home."

This is the first time Jodie has worked in a theatre, having previously travelled around schools and community groups.

"I can't wait until I get started on my new classes," she added.

The Swan Theatre is a part of the Worcestershire Dance Promoters. Led by local dance agency DanceFest, WDP has been given funding by Sport England, Worcester City Council, the Elmley Foundation and the Foyle Foundation. The aim is to create more opportunities for all residents to both participate in dance and to see it at the local theatres.

Jodie's classes, starting in September, include teaching wobbling toddlers, nervous adults and adventurous teenagers.

Chance to Dance is a contemporary dance class for anyone aged 40 and over. Jodie will teach gentle exercise with a touch of creativity.

The Dance Youth Group class is specifically designed for 14 to 18-year-olds. Jodie described it as an opportunity to dance in a variety of contemporary styles, with an emphasis on creative dance.

The Parents & Wobblers' dance will help youngsters between two to four discover the joy of movement through play. It should help mums and dad bond with their little one while they develop.

Free tasters of all the lessons run on Thursday, July 6. For more information and to pre-book a place call 01905 611427.
