WHEN the name Stratford is mentioned, most people think of one thing, Shakespeare, but one visit to the place will let anyone know that there is a lot more than just the famous playwright. Millions of visitors flock to Stratford every year to experience one of the most important and popular tourist destinations in the UK.
Stratford is a wonderful little market town situated on the banks of the River Avon and is steeped in culture and history. The area can boast an excellent range of pubs, restaurants, hotels and tea rooms which both tourists and locals can enjoy.
The Dirty Duck pub is one of the more famous watering holes in the area and why not sample some of the elegance of the refreshment venues on Sheep Street. Other attractions in Stratford include the Wellesbourne Water Mill, the Teddy Bear Museum and the Butterfly Farm.
But by far and away the most frequented places in Stratford have to be the two Royal Shakespeare Company theatres, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and The Swan. Most visitors to the area make a visit to these world famous venues. And any visit to Stratford would not be complete without a trip to the house he was born in, Nash's House, Anne Hathaway's Cottage and Mary Arden's House in Wilmcote. There is also the Holy Trinity Church where the Bard is buried.
Whatever you choose to do, Stratford is guaranteed to entertain.
