A COUNTY tourist attraction could soon become an entertainment hotspot if plans are given the green light by licensing authorities.

Witley Court has applied to Malvern Hills District Council for permission to host a wide variety of events under the Licensing Act 2003.

The former Great Witley stately home previously had to apply for occasional licences every time organisers wanted to host an event, but if given the go-ahead at a meeting on Thursday, the venue could in theory stage entertainment every day. Councillors on the district's licensing sub-committee will consider the application to allow activities requiring a licence to take place there in keeping with the attraction's standing as an historic property run by English Heritage.

Visitors would be able to enjoy live and recorded music, dance, theatre, film and workshops, as well as a licensed bar if the licence is granted - as long as organisers adhere to outlined time restrictions.

Phil Browning, the licensing officer for Malvern Hills, said: "If the committee grant it, this will be the first time Witley Court has had a licence under the Licensing Act 2003.

"They will not have to give notice and apply for a new licence each time they want to put on an event, as long as they operate within the licence's parameters.

"Each case is taken on its merits and the decision will be made by the committee."

The application will be considered on Thursday, April 6, at 2pm in Priory Lodge Hall, Avenue Lodge, Malvern.
