VoluntARY groups will get a boost from several new initiatives planned for Bromyard.

From next week, support and advice will be on hand in the shape of Mike Truelove, of Herefordshire Voluntary Action.

Mr Truelove will be based at the Age Concern Offices, Broad Street, on Monday and Wednesday mornings.

He will give advice on funding, legal issues, project promotion and working practices to any voluntary groups in the town.

Anyone thinking of becoming a volunteer can also approach him for advice.

The part-time post is being funded until next March by Herefordshire Market Towns Initiative.

"There was seen to be a need for this in Bromyard," said Mr Truelove.

"I'm very much looking forward to working with groups in the area, especially emerging ones.

"I'll also be trying to come up with new and innovative ways to attract new volunteers.

"I'm here to help, so anyone considering volunteering, don't just think about it, do it."

Voluntary Action is looking for community groups to take part in Bromyard's first charities market, in October.

"This will be a great opportunity to bring all the groups together and for people to come and see what they do.

"They can also sell products and raise some funds.

"We've had a lot of interested groups, but are looking for more."

Any groups interested in attending the market should call Voluntary Action on 01432 343932.

The group is seeking nominations for its annual Volunteer of the Year competition, due to be launched in July.
