KARATE

KIDDERMINSTER karate kids Curtis Jones and Daniel Garnish have proved a big hit by winning medals at international events in Wales and Belgium.

Eight year-old Jones, of Broadwaters Drive, entered the North Wales Martial Arts Open Championships and came away with a silver medal.

He had to beat many opponents from all over Britain to win his medal, and lost to an excellent competitor from Bolton in the final.

He is also in training for his black belt later this month.

A week later, 13-year-old Garnish was part of an English team in the Brussels Open Championships where he competed in both karate and kickboxing divisions.

Although he lost out in the karate division, he more than made up for it when taking a well-deserved silver medal in his kickboxing matches.

Garnish, of Beeston Road, is also in training for his black belt in December.

Both train at the Winspers Schools of BlackBelts Martial Arts Centre in Kidderminster.
