PLANS are afoot for a mass celebration of a Kidderminster church's golden jubilee next year.

An appeal has been made for everyone who has had anything to do with St Chad's Church, Burcher Green, to get in touch so they can be sent a personal invitation.

Parochial Church Council member, Mattie Underhill, also wants to hear from people with memories, photographs or memorabilia spanning the last 50 years to share in a DVD or CD she plans to put together.

"We have found a film of our early days, which is going into the National Archives and will be reproduced digitally," said the amateur historian.

The church was consecrated on May 24, 1956 and the Bishop of Worcester, the Rt Rev Dr Peter Selby, will lead a celebration service on Sunday, May 21, 2006.

A fun day will be held at the church the day before and there will be monthly services and fun activities throughout the year.

Mrs Underhill said they hoped to invite people who had been baptised, bereaved and married at the church over the years to the services.

"We are planning a lot of fun activities to bring in the local schools, elderly people and the whole community," she added.

People with past connections or memorabilia of St Chad's can ring Mrs Underhill on 01562 630560 or e-mail her at maunderhill@blueyonder.co.uk
