THE Sinclair Junior Ranking and Ratings Tour-nament, sponsored by R Sinclair Transport Ltd, was staged at Littletons TC.

A record 65 players competed in nine different events with competitors coming from all over the country.

Sam Robbins from Solihull beat Zak Wilson (Littleton) in the Under-18 final 7-6 6-0, while Alex Jennings from Solihull overcame Bromsgrove's Jack Kendall 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (tie-break) to take a thrilling Under-14 success.

Alex Duncliffe from Painswick defeated James Nolan from Solihull Arden 6-2, 6-2 in the Under- 12 final, while Lauren Whiteman (Droitwich) beat Kate Forrester (Bromsgrove) in the girls event 6-2, 7-5.

A dozen players from the host club were in action with good results in the doubles.

James Excell and Wilson (Littletons) beat L Borton and D. Stevens in the Open Doubles and Excell and Kendall got the better of Rob Moore and George Ricketts (Littletons) 6-2, 6-2 in the 14 and under doubles.

The other winners were both at Under-10 level with Jamie Malik taking the boys title and Agatha Poole the girls.

The tournament was given a grade 5 rating, making it a ranking tournament.

The LTA introduced a rankings system to encourage more players to enter tournaments. By using modern technology, organisers can get the results immediately to the LTA and the rankings are then updated every two weeks.

Littletons is the first club in Worcestershire to use this on-line facility and it created great interest.

Stratford's B team, meanwhile, continued its relentless march to the Prudden Road Surfacing League title with a 4-0 drubbing of Henley.

Still undefeated and yet to drop a rubber, they only dropped six games overall in their latest triumph.

Top pair Callum Bailey and Rob Slatter dropped only two games all evening in victories over Rob Summers and John Turner and Dave Howard and Julian Morris.

Captain Tim Page and Simon West overcame Howard & Morris 6-0, 6-0 and Summers and Turner 6-2, 6-2.

Closest rivals Inkberrow, meanwhile, were held to a 2-2 draw by Littleton when captain Graham Rankin and Tom Kenneally did well to hold off Dave Rudge and Andy Reynolds 1-6, 7-5, 6-2.

However, they but went down 5-7, 0-6 to Sean Witheford and Chris Elliott.

Chipping Campden 3, Claverdon 1: Rolf Wilson & Mark Kirkbride bt Pieter Van-Hengel & James Courier 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 & Richard Butler & Nigel Bacon 7-6, 3-6, 6-1. Ken Dawson & Mark Evans lost 3-6, 3-6 to Butler & Bacon & bt Van-Hengel & Courier 7-5, 6-4.

Studley took maximum points as Stratford C again failed to field a side and have received a hefty fine and been docked a point.

Shipston consolidated their position at the top of Division One after a 3-1 home triumph over closest rivals FISSC.

Second-placed Ardencote Manor, who were 2-0 up last week against Division Four rivals Ullenhall when bad light stopped play, slipped up when play resumed to lose the remaining rubbers and had to settle for a 2-2 draw.
