A hotly tipped star for the future booked his place in the county finals last week. FINAL FLING: Chris Miller, aged eight, is heading for the county finals.

Chris Miller, aged eight, will take on the best of the rest from Herefordshire and Worcestershire at Malvern's Manor Park club in September.

The Dodford School pupil, competing at the qualifying tournament in Hereford, won his first three matches to reach the finals and was narrowly beaten in the final.

Father Ian Miller said: "He's done every so well to make the county finals and has an excellent chance to do well.

If he impresses at the county finals Miller could be called up to its under-10s team.

The gifted young player is also waiting to hear from Hereford and Worcester LTA to see if he impressed at the talent assessment tournament at Malvern last week.

If he were selected then Miller would be eligible for one-to-one tutoring with Bromsgrove Tennis Club coach Richard Lawton.

Mr Miller said: "It would be the first hurdle Chris has to get past on the way to success."

Chris has also been selected by the county to play against Shropshire at original venue for modern Olympic Games, Much Wenlock, in July.
