A BETTING kiosk and hospitality box at Worcester racecourse were ravaged in an early morning blaze.

Three fire crews from Worcester and one from Bromsgrove were called to tackle the fire, at Pitchcroft, at 12.26am yesterday.

The flames damaged a Tote betting booth and destroyed an adjoining wooden hospitality area at the far end of the grandstand, but no one was hurt in the incident.

Firefighters, who were on the scene for about an hour, are still investigating the cause and have not discounted the possibility of arson.

Racecourse director Derek Prodger said no races would be affected by the incident, but added that vandalism is an on-going problem at the ground.
