PEOPLE caring for relatives or neighbours and who feel they need help and advice will find it available in Wyre Forest during the national Carers Week.

The theme of the event, beginning on Monday and running through until Sunday, June 19, is work, rest and play and is intended to highlight the rights of carers to lead fulfilling lives of their own.

That could be through work, study or leisure activities, fitted in and around their caring responsibilities.

Information that will be available at venues throughout Wyre Forest during the week will range from the sitter service to carer breaks and include benefits.

Anybody who is a carer can either drop in or make an appointment. Information packs will also be available.

Worcestershire County Council's cabinet member for adult and community services, councillor Philip Gretton, said: "I'm very pleased to see that the work of the carers unit is being taken out and about to people in all areas.

"Many people are unable to come to Worcester for the support they need, so we're bringing the information and advice closer to home.

"The work of carers is essential to the wellbeing of our communities, so I hope that as many people as possible will take advantage of visiting a session near their home."

Paul Jeffery, the council's carers unit manager, said: "Anyone with caring responsibilities will be welcome to come and talk to us.

"It's an ideal opportunity to find out more about the local support and the services available to them and to give themselves a break."

Advice sessions will be held in Kidderminster, at Connect (Wyre Forest), 10-12 Blackwell Street, on Wednesday, June 15 between 1pm-4pm, Bewdley Medical Centre, Dog Lane, on Thursday, June 16, 10.30am-2.30pm and Stourport Health Centre, Worcester Road, on Friday, June 17, 11.30am-4pm.
