A KIDDERMINSTER woman had to be cut free from her car after a crash outside West Midland Safari Park.

Staff from the safari park helped police control the traffic as firefighters spent 30 minutes cutting the door and roof from the blue Renault Clio after the collision with a Porsche 911 Turbo on Saturday.

An air ambulance landed in a nearby field and took the woman, in her 40s, to Selly Oak Hospital, where she was said to be stable. Police said she had injuries to her head, chest and leg, which were serious but not thought to be life threatening.

Her passenger, a teenage girl, believed to be her daughter, was unhurt and the driver of the Porsche, a man in his 60s from the Menith Wood area, had minor chest injuries and shock.

Two fire engines from Kidderminster were called to the scene just after 4pm, minutes after the open day ended at the town's fire station.

"The last of the visitors had just gone and the firefighters had to go straight out on this call," a spokesman said.

PC Andy Saunders, of North Worcestershire's Road Policing Team, said witnesses were being sought.

"This was a serious collision, which resulted in the A456 being completely closed to traffic for several hours," he said.

"The road was very busy with people either travelling to or from the safari park and any information, no matter how small, could be useful in finding out what happened."

Wendy Jackson, the safari park's spokeswoman, said visitors to the attraction were not seriously affected.
