GARDEN lovers have dug deep for Operation Covert.

Our appeal has been boosted thanks to Sheila and Adrian James who organised an open weekend at their Comberton Avenue garden in Kidderminster.

The colourful display of spring flowers attracted scores of enthusiasts looking to pick up tips.

The garden owners, who are members of Kidderminster Horticultural Society, opened for two days and shared the proceeds between Operation Covert and the National Gardens Scheme.

Mr James said: "We had a thoroughly successful weekend, raising just over £400 in total.

"We are opening again over the weekend of August 20-21 for the same causes and we are hoping for another good turnout then."

At that time the garden has a completely different look as vibrant spring flowers have disappeared, allowing exotics to take centre stage.

The horticultural society is aiming to give Operation Covert another cash injection when a number of members open their gardens on Sunday, June 26.
