STAFF at Bewdley Medical Centre are limbering up in preparation for a five kilometre run for charity.

A total of 17 women from the centre are taking part in the Race for Life event, held in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The runners, of various ages, will take part in the run, for women only, at Worcester Racecourse on Sunday. Like others in the group, it will be a new experience for secretary, Julie Carter.

She said: "This is the first time that many of us have done this sort of thing but it has been really enjoyable and we are all looking forward to it.

"We have all been in training and some even have joined Stourport Running Club to prepare," she added.

Mrs Carter explained why so many of her colleagues have decided to take part, saying: "The issue touches everyone. Some people taking part have lost close relatives but we are all doing it because it will help such a good cause in general."

Members of the group have enjoyed the experience so much that they intended to repeat the exercise, according to Mrs Carter.

She said: "We are already planning to do this sort of thing again. We would like to do the 10km run for the Brambles Trust charity."

Anybody who wants to make a donation can do so at the Medical Centre, in Dog Lane, Bewdley.
