POLICE want to hear from anyone who has received any suspicious phone calls from a man claiming to be from the Neighbourhood Watch.

The appeal comes after a call was made to an address in Station Road, Broadway.

The man who called himself Pat Delaney and spoke with an Irish or Liverpool accent, said he was from the local crime prevention team.

When asked by the householder if he was from the police, the caller said he was with the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme.

When pressed for further information, the man ended the call.

Police spokesman Richard Bull said: "Enquiries confirm that there is no-one from the Neighbourhood Watch with that name and that no-one from the organisation would be making that type of call.

"It is not clear what the possible motive might be, but it certainly does not appear to be genuine.

"We would therefore like to here from anyone else who may have been similarly approached, but until now has not thought of reporting it."

Anyone who has been called in that way, or has had other telephone conversations that make them feel uneasy is urged to contact Evesham Police on 08457 444 888, quoting 391S/310505.
