MEMBERS of a family upset by the vandalism of their mother's gravestone face a £200 bill to repair the damage.

One of the family members discovered that the black headstone had been pushed over in Brinton Park Cemetery, off Park Lane.

A police spokesman said: "The black headstone had been pushed over, face downwards, and, at first, the family thought it was connected to the safety inspection work being carried out by the council in the cemetery.

"However, this was not the case and they realised that their mother's gravestone had been vandalised, along with at least one other headstone nearby.

"It's expected that repairs will cost at least £200 but this really is not the issue with the family. This incident has caused them great upset and we would appeal to anyone with information to contact the police.

"We would also remind people that the cemetery can be a dangerous place, with some older headstones becoming less stable over time."

Anyone with information about the vandalism incident, which happened between May 15 and May 29, can call Kidderminster police on 08457 444888 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
