WYRE Forest Cycle Racing Club's Kris Doms finished a superb ninth overall in the Veterans Time Trials Association 10-mile time-trial at Weston on Saturday.

In warm and sunny conditions, but with a strong wind to contend with, Doms powered around the course to cross the line in a time of 23 minutes 43 seconds to finish third in the handicap competition.

Gary Bartram finished close behind with another strong ride in tenth place and three seconds behind Doms with a time of 23-46 and second place in the handicap.

Karl Davies raced a new personal best time of 25-05 while Andy Convery finished strongly with 25-42, Simon Middup-Jones 27-34, Mick Gray 29-04 and Sue Middup-Jones 31-31.

Dave Wood and Karl Davies travelled down to South Wales on Sunday for the Ogmore Valley Wheelers 25 mile time-trial at Glenneath to both record new personal best times in perfect racing conditions.

Wood powered around the fast course to finish in 55-48 while Davies completed a weekend of personal best rides to finish inside the hour for the first time with 59-24, an improvement of over seven minutes!

James Smith represented the club in two triathlons recently with both races consisting of a 400m swim, 40k cycle and a 5 k run. Smith finished in a fine tenth place overall in the Tewkesbury triathlon and then travelled down to Wiltshire for the Calne triathlon where he managed 17th place overall.

John Parker and Dave Wood tied for first place in the latest round five of the club events competition on Tuesday evening. On a windy but fast night for racing, the pair recorded a time of 24-29 on the 10-mile Great Witley course, with Gary Bartram taking a fine third place with 24-38.

Other times: Kris Doms 25-19, Richard Pedersen 25-43, Karl Davies 25-44, Peter Keron 26-00, Joe Rowe 26-49, James Smith 27-07, Brian Clarke 27-29, Ruth Finney 29-20, Mick Gray 30-56. Ruth and Phil Blacker rode their tandem to a time of 24-43.

Following the success of the first Easyriders event for beginners and families from Stourport Sports Centre, The Kingsway, the rides are to continue every Monday throughout the summer, with riders meeting at 7pm and returning to the centre at around 8pm.

The rides are aimed at anyone who likes to ride a bike, regardless of their fitness or ability, and all children should be accompanied by an adult.
