JOHN Trewick hailed Hereford United's away supporters as 'absolutely fantastic' for their efforts following the club.

Around 1,400 fans made the trip to Stevenage on Bank Holiday Monday for the Nationwide Conference play-off semi-final first-leg.

Supporters queued long into the night at Edgar Street to purchase a ticket for Broadhall Way and hundreds were disappointed as United's allocation sold out in quick-fire time.

Bulls' first-team coach Trewick has been delighted with the away support numbers this term as the club strived for promotion to the Football League.

Trewick singled out the following for last month's mid-week clash at Forest Green, which United won 3-1, as the season's highlight.

"The away support all season has been absolutely fantastic," enthused Trewick. "It culminated at the Forest Green game where we took over the whole length of the pitch. It was fantastic that night.

"We had more of our fans there than home supporters and they deserve huge credit for

that. The away fans have been great and followed us around the country in large numbers.

"Of course, it gives the players a lift and everybody a lift when you see so many numbers at away games. Long may that continue.

"When we are away from home, all the supporters come together."

Meanwhile, Trewick is expecting greater things to come from striker Danny Carey-Bertram, who is 21 next month.

Trewick said: "At the start of the season, Danny was out of the side and had to wait for his opportunity. When he did come in, he took his chance.

"He's got a lot of pace, skill, good technique and ability, and scores plenty of goals.

"He's only 20 and it this a very important season for him. He was no longer being treated as the youngster on the block.

"It was a season where he knew he had to make his mark and I think he's done that. He is an important player for us and I think there will be a lot, lot more to come from Danny."
