FOLK-rock veterans Fairport Convention will be breezing into Worcester next week for a concert at the city's Huntingdon Hall.

The band has been together for nearly 40 years and the late radio DJ John Peel was one of the many staunch champions of their music, playing their albums on his influential BBC shows.

Collectively, the band members have released a string of albums and won several awards, including one for Lifetime Achievement in 2002 at the BBC Radio Two Folk Awards.

Their album Liege and Lief was also voted Best Folk Album Ever by listeners of the radio station - and they even commissioned an Anniversary Ale to mark their 35th year together in 2002.

To top it all, the musicians have also played both individually and collectively with such luminaries as Jethro Tull, Richard Thompson, Soft Machine, Chris Rea, The Albion Band and Robert Plant.

They will be airing many of their tunes which have gained them fans of all ages when they play Huntingdon Hall on Thursday, May 12, at 8pm.

Tickets are £14 (concessions £13), from the box office on 01905 727979.
