IN only their third full season running youth cricket, Hanley Castle and Upton CC have produced two young players who have been selected for county squads.

Rory Matthews (U11) and Will Chambers (U10) have attended winter training with a full squad and were both delighted to be selected in the final teams for this season's fixtures.

Matthews follows up a fine season last year for the County U10s with selection at the older age group, whilst for Chambers it is his first chance to wear the county colours.

Club vice-chairman Len Jakeman said: "It was a great reflection on the strength of colts cricket at the club to have boys selected for the county teams and was excellent reward for the time put in by the club coaches.

"We are also delighted to be hosting our first county colts game on Sunday, July 31, when the U10s meet Oxfordshire. Spectators welcome for a 2pm start."
