WORCESTER Nomads 1st XI entertained Coombs Wood at Bransford in their first Worcestershire County League division two game of the season on Saturday.

Nomads won the toss and put Coombs Wood into bat and the captain Darren Lakin was rewarded in his decision with a six-wicket win.

The Nomads opening attack of Steve Bowman (3-28) and Ben Schiffman (3-36) were soon amongst the wickets and Coombs Wood were 22-5.

N Griffiths then decided attack was the best option and started hitting the ball to all parts, he ended 58no and Coombs Wood finished their 50 overs on 176-9.

Sachin Khartade ended with figures of 2-63 and Matt Ormerod bowled well, taking 1-10 off seven overs.

Nomads lost an early wicket but Steve Medley (20) and Danny Rees (26) gave them a solid platform and this was continued by Sachin Khartade (42no), Steve Bowman (56) and Derek Austin (26no), to give Nomads victory by six wickets with 12 overs remaining.

Nomads 2nd XI visited Coombs Wood and won the toss. They put Coombs Wood into bat on a green wet wicket and won by five wickets.

Coombs Wood struggled against the steady bowling of John Goodreds (4-26) and the spin of Geoff Taylor (3-43) and never really got going.

Coombs Wood were bowled out for 108.

Nomads also got into some trouble being 44-4 but Andy Leach (58no) and Dave Finbow put on 47 for the fifth wicket and brought Nomads victory by five wickets.

On Sunday Nomads 1st XI entertained Alfrick and won by five wickets.

Alfrick batted first and struggled against the father/son combination of Chris and John Goodreds, who took 1-19 and 1-17 respectively.

Steve Bowman (2-17) and Nick Williams (3-0) replaced them and destroyed the Alfrick middle order. The only batsmen to demonstrate any authority was Andy Ford (52).

Alfrick finished on 142 all out off 36 overs

Nomads then batted and were indebted to Sachin Khartade (75), with assistance from Jack Brain and James Smith, and scored 143-5 off 38 overs, giving them victory by five wickets.
