MALVERN Town played their final Midland Alliance game of the season when Romulus were the visitors to Langland Stadium on Saturday.

MALVERN TOWN 0, ROMULUS 3

A typical end of season game was killed off early on when the visitors scored two quick goals.

After 18 minutes, the referee ignored an offside flag and the ball went out for a Romulus corner. Newcomer Richard Evans took the kick and it was headed home by Michael Batchelor.

One minute later, Tyrone Fagan outstripped the Town's defence to rifle a shot into the roof of the net, although Paul Wyatt did manage to get a hand to it.

Romulus continued to press and on 35 minutes Wyatt did well to turn a shot by Fagan round the post.

Malvern had a great chance to pull a goal back but Andy Chalmers' volley was well-saved by Harris in the visitors' goal.

Five minutes into the second period, Malvern had a chance to reduce the arrears when Richard Tomkins was brought down in the box. Nathan Jukes took the penalty but Harris dived to his right to turn the ball away.

Things got worse for Town in the 68th minute when Wyatt was shown the red card for bringing down James Knott in the box. Jamie Lambert took over in goal and the first thing he had to do was pick the ball out of the net after Fagan's spot-kick.

Play petered out after this and chances for either side were few.

Malvern finished in fifth spot in the Midland Alliance table in their first season, which, considering all their long-term injuries and unavailabilities, is a highly respectable position.
