COLWALL Village Hall will welcome folk singer-songwriter Clive Gregson for a concert on Saturday, May 14.

Originally from Manchester, Clive is both an acclaimed musician and producer, and was nominated for a Nashville Music Award in 1997.

He will be coming all the way from his adopted home in Nashville, Tennessee.

He recently supported folk legend Nanci Griffith on a UK tour that included venues such as Birmingham Symphony Hall.

His own tour marks his 25th year as a professional musician.

The concert in Colwall will be Clive's first in the area since performing with Plainsong at Huntingdon Hall, Worcester, four years ago.

Clive's musical career started in 1980 as leader of Any Trouble, which released five albums before disbanding five years later.

He then began a song-writing relationship with Christine Collister, with whom he released four albums.

Since the 1990s, Clive has regularly released his own records and toured the world, including Japan, Europe and America.

"I'm really looking forward to playing in Colwall, it's a lovely part of the world," he said.

"Nashville's very different, but I'm enjoying it there, it's a good place to be for full-time musicians, recording sessions are happening all the time."

The concert in Colwall is one of 20 performances Clive will complete during a whistle-stop tour of the country.

"I like to come back to Britain at least once a year, sometimes twice, in the spring and autumn," he explained.

"I hope people will come along and help support live music."

Concert organiser Adrian Mealing said: "We're incredibly lucky to get to see him in these intimate surroundings. It will be a real treat for the ears and the soul."

"It would be well worth getting a ticket in advance."

The concert starts at 8pm. Tickets are £10 (£5 children) from Adrian Mealing on 01684 540366.
