MALVERN racing driver Clinton Dorrell was presented with the ultimate 'number one' as winner of the SR & GT Challenge last season and enjoyed a first race victory at Snetterton.

Driving his V8 Chevrolet-powered Cobra, his qualifying session saw him take fastest time of 1min 15.7 secs securing pole position from the two Cobras of Nick Taylor and Cheng Lym, followed by a grid of 18 classic cars including Ford GT40's and E-type Jaguars.

The first race saw Taylor not giving Dorrell any space at all to have the correct line into the first bend, which resulted in him locking-up and spinning off into the marker tyres, causing considerable damage to the rear wing.

Due to the previous race retirement, Dorrell had to start from the back of the grid for his next race. Almost an entire straight length between him and main rival Cheng Lym on pole position.

Dorrell had everything to gain and was soon impressively flying through the grid and breathing on the tail of Lym's Cobra as the pair reached speeds of up to 170mph. Dorrell managed to outbrake Lym and pass him near the finish to give him his first win of the season.

A relieved Dorrell said: "Thanks should go to the pit crew, Mark and Josh Powell, and my wife Lorna and daughter Camey for all their help."

The next race is at Donnington Park on May 14 and 15.
