THE sun shone on all sorts of weird and wonderful aliens at Malvern's Priory Park on Saturday.

Creatures from the far corners of the galaxy made contact with Earth as part of the annual May Day celebrations.

The event started with the traditional procession, led by the Malvern Samba Band with its intoxicating Brazilian rhythms.

Priory Park was transformed into the exotic surface of another world, full of outer-space fun.

A Dalek and a Cyberman - two of Dr Who's best-known enemies - menaced the crowds.

TV presenter Dick Strawbridge led workshops in which youngsters made and launched water-powered "rockets".

The event also featured the annual address from the Bard of Malvern, Jai Hill, who later also appeared as "Mr English", doing a stand-up comedy performance.

He said: "It was a beautiful day. I gave the address and it was received very well. I think the event is a major selling point for Malvern. We get a lot of visitors."

The annual well-dressing was also a great success, with two dozen spouts around the hills being decorated.

Rose Garrard, of Malvern Spa Association, said the decorated wells had proved very popular, with lots of people visiting them over the weekend.
