A Malvern church is celebrating the completion of a £100,000 refurbishment project.

Members of Lansdowne Crescent Methodist Church will hold a launch event tomorrow (Saturday), to show off the improvements.

Work on a new glazed entrance area, including a community room, catering facilities and disabled toilets, was completed last week.

The area is separated from the main body of the church by folding screens and can be used by community groups, or to extend the seating capacity of the building.

Grants from the Methodist Circuit, Malvern-based Severn Waste Environmental Fund and the national Biffaward scheme helped fund the project.

The remainder was generated through fundraising events held by the congregation.

Mathon-based Dawe Building & Construction began work on the project in December, finishing on schedule.

Church member Ernest Wakefield said: "We're all very pleased with it. It looks really good, and has made a big improvement.

"The work was finished on time and the facilities have been used already."

Mr Wakefield said the new entrance had stopped cold wind blowing through the church and made conditions more pleasant.

Church members are offering the use of the facilities to local community groups.

The church will be open tomorrow, from 10am to 4pm, for people to see the new facilities and enjoy refreshments.

The Chase Brass Band will give a concert at 7.30pm.

Everyone involved in the project will gather at the church on Sunday for a thanksgiving and dedication service, led by Rev Catherine Campbell Hyde at 10.30am.
