FIRST of all, thank you Mark Haslam for his letter (April 22) re: The Horseshoe Inn, Bromsgreen.

We are some of the many people who have sent letters and, yes, we might not live in the village anymore due to work etc, but we are and have always been village people and what's more, we do care about what happens to our villages, the pubs, schools, churches, village halls, youth clubs and village life.

When the Horseshoe was open we always travelled, even if it meant taking turns to drive there, as we would much rather travel to a pub where we were sure of a friendly welcome and a good atmosphere.

Generations of our families have lived in this and the surrounding villages and several live there at the moment. We will always support them and any functions they may have in the village, even though we do not live there anymore.

The loss of the pub is not only detrimental to village life but to the many walking clubs and visitors who frequent the area, as there was always food and drinks available at the end of a long walk.

During the long winter months, we look forward to log fires, darts, card games, dominoes and all team games bringing laughter and friendly banter between the teams and real friendly people, of whom we are some. This applies to many people who do not live in the surrounding villages any longer.

We are real people who signed the letters of protest against the closure of our very missed pub.
