THE seeds of something great have been sown in Bromyard.

Gloves Galore, written and directed by local women Josie Ann Dolan and Margaret Dallow, was staged for the first time at the Conquest.

It was charming production based on the day-to-day workings of the former Bromyard glove factory, Milore.

Its forte was in capturing a sense of nostalgia with big efforts being made to create a 1950's set, with foot-controlled sewing machines, clocking-in machine, telephones, furniture and wonderful costumes and hair-do's.

Completing the old-time feel was a lively use of contemporary music throughout, some of which played while the characters went about their business, listening or singing along to the music.

I felt this was a show that could easily be developed. Its personalities felt real, with wonderful, authentic performances from all the cast, and particularly from aspiring young actress Amanda Vincent Perkins.

With the play being short, at only one hour long, I felt the dialogue could be developed to expand each of the characters and their roles within the play.

If that were done, this could be a classic piece, written in and about Bromyard people but worthy of a much wider audience.
