YOUNGSTERS in Malvern will be engaging in everything from circus skills to Afro-Caribbean culture as their school holds an alternative curriculum week.

St Joseph's RC School, in Newtown Road, is holding the annual event from Monday, May 23 to Friday, May 27. On the Monday, circus skills company Splats will be coming into the school to teach the children how to juggle and take part in balancing acts.

Healthy eating organisation Foodlab will also be visiting on the Wednesday and Thursday to talk about what makes a healthy diet and explore packed lunches.

And there will also be an Afro-Caribbean workshop where the children will take part in dancing on the Friday. Throughout the week, there will also be various other activities taking place including arts and crafts and rugby coaching.

"The idea is to actually to enhance the learning that goes on in the national curriculum and make it more exciting and interesting for the children," said headteacher Ann-Marie Wallbank. "A lot of the sessions are quite physical, which help the children to be better co-ordinated."
