ARDEN Club members sailed three races at Defford last weekend starting with the second race in the Arden Trophy Series.

This took place in a brisk force 3-4 south westerly wind and there was a good turnout with six classes of dinghy on the start line.

The Enterprises led the fleet away up the first beat in the direction of Strensham with the boats of Jeremy and Michelle Griffiths and Niall Campbell and Gunnhildur Dadadottir making immediate headway ahead of the Solos of Andrew Potts and Ralph Evans.

After several changes of position and much jousting for tactical position as they were approaching the marks of the course, the winners by a single second were Jeremy and Mich-elle from Campbell and Dadad-ottir with Potts and Evans separated by the Comet of Keith Stevens.

The second race saw the Enterprises and GP14 raced against each other in the first of the Bert Thurlow Series in a freshening breeze gusting to force 5.

Once again the first race winners were to the fore alongside Campbell and Dadadottir until they capsized and allowed the Enterprise of Stuart and Caro-line Stephen to take second place followed by the GP14 of David and Pauline Appleby.

Third time around, the Solos of Potts and Evans were again trying to get the better of each other and to beat Stevens' Comet on handicap. Potts finished first ahead of Evans and Stevens.
