N TAYLOR says "we cannot go on building" (Letters, Friday, April 22).
The provision of homes for those who need them is more important than the view from this correspondent's window.
Mr Taylor, of course, exaggerates when he says UK is three times as densely populated as China. The respective figures are as follows - 640 per square mile in UK, 336 per square mile in China.
However, I agree that Planet Earth is changing dramatically. The popular, or rather unpopular, belief is that such change is caused by global warming, the result of emissions from industry and traffic.
The changes taking place on the planet are, most probably, cyclical. After all, human lives last for a little over 100 years at most. The planetary phenomenon now taking place may have last occurred, perhaps, a million years ago. Our lives are too brief for us to know much about our environment.
