BEWDLEY Town piled the pressure back on Great Wyrley after completing two wins in three days to go two points clear at the top of the West Midlands League Division One table.

It sets up an exciting showdown when the two teams meet at Ribbesford Meadows for Bewdley's final home game on Thursday May 12, kick off 6.30pm.

A bumper crowd is expected as Bewdley bid to stay in pole position with the deciding games being played on May 14th.

Saturday's game was away to Wednesbury Town and Bewdley came away with a 4 -2 win. They went 3 goals up in the first half with a brace from Jamie Hart and the third from strike partner Lewis Pountney.

At the start of the second half, Wednesbury got punished further with an own goal.

Bewdley made three substitutions after 10 minutes to rest key players ahead of Monday's game with Brereton Social. This unsettled the team a little bit and the home side took advantage.

They scored twice within five minutes, once from a penalty rebound after a finbe save by young substitute keeper Andy Lacey.

Bank Holiday Monday's home game against mid-table Brereton saw another bumper crowd of more than 100 spectators, who were not dissappointed as Bewdley gave the visitors a 6 -0 thrashing.

The home side had to field two midfielders in defence as four of the backline were out of action due to injuries and suspension.

The first half saw Bewdley dominate the game with a goal in the first minute by Tommy Stewart from a corner supplied by Ben McClouglan.

The home side dominated proceedings there on, but it took another 34 minutes for captain Chris Hough to score Bewdley's second in the game and the team's 100th in the league.

Steve Thomas was also forced to push a 42nd minute free kick over the bar.

The second half was all one way to the home side with Lewis Pountney getting a brace on 54 minutes and 70 minutes after working hard with Jamie Hart and causing the visitors defence all sorts of problems.

On 81 minutes came the goal of the match as John Hardiman crossed the ball from the left midfield into the six-yard box for McClouglan to volley past a standing helpless keeper. Hart got his only goal of the game on 88 minutes after excellent work from midfielder Sam Pountney.

Bewdley's next game is away to Ashbourne United on Saturday.
