THIEVES snatched photographs of "sentimental value" from a car parked at a Stourport church - while its owner visited the grave of her grandson.

The Stourport woman was left "devastated" by the theft, from St Michael's Church in Church Drive.

Police said the thieves smashed the window of the car, a Citroen, and stole the handbag between 6pm and 6.30pm on Thursday.

The car owner, who was in her 40s, had visited the church to see her grandson's grave, a spokeswoman for Kidderminster police said.

She added: "Some of the items in the bag meant the world to the owner but would be worthless to anyone else. She is devastated by the theft and is desperate to get the bag back."

She went on: "The bag contained a small amount of cash in a Chanel purse, a mobile phone, a quantity of tablets including anti-depressants and morphine painkillers, an address book and items of sentimental value, including several photographs.

"It also contained a bank card which was later used to withdraw £280 from a cash machine."

Damage of £30 was caused to the car, she added.

Witnesses or anyone with information have been asked to contact Kidderminster police on 08457 444888 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
